About CTC Off Road Training Level 2

LEVEL TWO - Intermediate off road skills is developing existing skills, learning new ones and tackle slightly more challenging terrain plus again, map reading skills and weather preparation, exact prices will be given on request

All sessions will include the 'M test Bike Check', braking skills, pedalling, gear changes and body positioning, the latter being very important, mainly because the gradients are more extreme bearing in mind that the basic principal of the body changes the weight distribution and therefore the pivot point of the ensemble changes.

Core Skills for Level 2 include:-

Position on bike
Body position; climbing and descending
Slow speed balancing
Slippery conditions
Single track climbing
Bomb holes
Lofting the front wheel
Single track types
Clothing
Bike fitting
Simple repairs
Basic map reading

As with Bikeability, in order to achieve Level 2 the students should be able to demonstrate the above consistently. If a satisfactory standard is achieved then going onto Level 3 would the next step, however 'best practise' realistically speaking would be that they practise their new found skills for a few months first before doing so as off road cycling tends to be more strenuous than on road cycling, the bikes being sturdier they are also heavier so maintaining a certain level of fitness is also paramount especially as they progress as training becomes more complicated and demanding.

NB. For Individual 1:1 Tuition the methods used are tailor made to your individual needs although the same principles will apply vs. activities for a group to achieve the same objectives. Also we take as much or as little time as any one individual needs., there are no maximums as everyone is different.
