FUNDING THE 'KERNOW WHEELS FOR ALL' PROJECT
How we will do it and how we also need your help ..

Home Up

"I remember when the Secretary of State for Children, Schools and Families, Ed Balls, visited the Sir James Smith School in Camelford and he specifically referred to the provision of sport outside of schools that must benefit the community as a whole, including those with disabilities. The Wheels for All Centre in Cornwall is a wonderful way of addressing that objective and I wholeheartedly support the project. I hope that the commercial sector in Cornwall will feel able to contribute to the funding of these specialised bikes." The late Lord (Eddie) George, October 2008

“I admire those involved for their drive and enthusiasm and I wish it every success. Cornwall is a wonderful county and I’m so pleased that it will lead the region in providing a cycling facility that directly addresses issues of equality and diversity. Our motto is for 'One and All' and this is a perfect example of that noble aspiration being put into action.”
(Lady Mary Holborow, Lord Lieutenant of Cornwall)

Some of the funding will come from grants.  These will be grants that the people behind 'Kernow Wheels for All' will apply for and have it underwritten by the charity Cycling Projects, who in turn, will provide the training and supply the bikes as well.  Effectively we will be a subsiduary of Cycling Projects ..

Both the Cornwall Community Foundation (thanks to Lady George) and the Variety Club have invited us to apply for a grant which is as good a starting point as any .. Cycling Projects will also help us to find grants we can apply for or possibly allocate us funds that are forthcoming from a grant that they have already applied for, on behalf of the smaller projects bearing their name and working in tandem with them.

However if any local businesses wish to also commit to contributing or even donate a specialised bike, we would welcome hearing from them so that we can work out what the best option is.  I believe that they can have their name put onto the bike or some can be painted in a different colour so that anyone who uses it, will know that it was donated by whichever company so a good publicity exercise and something that is tax deductable creating a 'win, win' situation.

The whole idea is that apart from a small nominal fee to cover maintenance costs in terms of replacement parts etc., it will be a free service .. the Cornwall Sports Partnership are working with us on this and we already have our maintenance volunteer in the form of Gary Moger from Devoran, aka Revolution Bike Works.  He is a highly qualified mechanic and we are very lucky to have him.

If you wish to put a few pennies into the pot, please click on the widget on the left.  It will open up the Just Giving page in a new window .. any donations will go directly to the charity and be put aside for Cornwall until enough has been accumulated to cover the cost of a bike so any coffee mornings or other fundraisers to support the project would also be gratefully received.
