The UK School Games was conceived on the way back from winning the bid for the 2012 Olympic Games, to be run on the lines of such a games so that the up and coming athletes still in school a taste of what being selected would be like and now there is the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow now as well.  These games have been running since 2006 and will run for at least another two years, primarily the brainchild of and sponsored by the Youth Sports Trust.  For the first time in 2009, Track Cycling was included as the event was being hosted by Wales and they have an indoor velodrome in Newport, Gwent.  In 2010 it was Road Racing in various forms and 2011 it sounds as though it will be Cyclo-Cross and MBT events. If you look carefully you might spot former medallists such as Jamie Staff who was mentor to the cyclists in 2009 and James Cambridge in 2010.  Always on hand were other Olympians such as Amy Williams, Denise Lewis and Darren Campbell.  Jill Douglas, the TV presenter and Jason Gardiner were also floating around, Jason having been the games ambassador in 2008.
